An excellent new podcast

23 November 2015

What are you listening to at the moment? I'm loving The New Yorker Radio Hour, it's like a variety show with a top-notch cast of writers, cartoonists and guests each week.

After spending much of the year listening to audiobooks (they're excellent for long drives), I was excited to find a new hour-long podcast I could really get into. I've always wanted to read The New Yorker but haven't always been able to track it down, or find the time to get through its incredibly researched long-form stories.

I reckon the podcast is the next best thing. There are a number of different segments, which makes it easy to dip in and out of if you can't listen to the whole episode in one sitting. Sometimes the editor of the magazine and podcast host, David Remnick, will pop in to see what a staff writer is getting up to.  There has also been a three-part series that followed a woman in search of her biological father.

My highlights so far have been interviews with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, comedian Amy Schumer, long-time television anchor Jorge Ramos and activist Gloria Steinem - whose new book I'd love for Christmas.

And it's a podcast that Tony loves too. If we're travelling together, we tend to listen to This American Life, Mystery Show, Here's The Thing, StartUp and now The New Yorker Radio Hour.

P.S You might also like David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker, on Here's The Thing.
