Sydney weekend

09 October 2016

We roadtripped to Sydney on the weekend to celebrate two birthdays and snuck in dinner at a new place and a trip to the beach too. Here are a few snaps:

My niece turned three on Saturday and my sister and her husband hosted a backyard barbecue. Right before lunch my baby nephew fell asleep in my lap, so my mum made up a lunch box of cut up sausages, sauces and potato salad so I could eat with one hand! Later there was an amazing castle cake to top it off.

That night we caught the train into the city and checked out Kinokuniya on our way to dinner. We tried Boon Cafe, which is inside an Asian grocery store in Thai Town. We ordered iced chrysanthemum teas, a pork liver salad (Tony's choice!) and a plate of the springiest chicken noodles. A black sesame cookie and matcha and white chocolate brownie came back to the hotel with us for dessert :)

On Sunday we had breakfast at one of our favourite spots and walked down to Balmoral beach, knowing we'd be back in the car that afternoon. It was so nice to see and smell the sea! It's been awhile.

Last stop was my uncle Mark's 70th birthday party. In place of speeches, his sister had everyone send her a funny memory they'd had with him. As the party kicked off, we took turns reading them aloud and he had to guess who each story was from. I found out that he was in a team of architects whose design for new Parliament House came second in the international design competition, and that he loves Vietnamese larb!

And something for next time - Belles Hot Chicken at Barangaroo.

Hope you have a great week ahead.
